The Correspondence series contains Maria Chabot's general correspondence files. Files for correspondents are arranged alphabetically by correspondent and contain letters to and from Chabot. The alphabetical subseries are A-D, E-H, J-L, M-P, R-T, U-Z. A significant subseries of letters between Chabot and her father Charles J. Chabot, and a large subseries containing letters between Chabot and her mother, Olive J. Chabot, are included. Unidentified correspondents are included in the U-Z subseries and are grouped as "Unidentified" appearing alphabetically by identifying initial or first or last name. For names appearing in the Correspondence series not associated with container (box and folder) numbers, "See notes," which indicate where correspondence or other materials for that person can be found in the collection. "See also" notes are included for some correspondents for the same purpose. Full-text searching for names across the entire collection is recommended for finding relevant materials in series or subseries other than the Correspondence series.

The Research and Writing series is arranged into five major subseries. They are Literary work, General interests, Southwest American Indians, Hispano and Mexican culture, Georgia O'Keeffe book, and Christiane Gallet biography. The literary work subseries contains original fiction and non-fiction writing by Chabot. The general interests subseries includes research and notes on miscellaneous topics. The Southwest American Indians and Hispano and Mexican cultures subseries include both research and writing by Chabot. The bulk of the Georgia O'Keeffe subseries is an unpublished manuscript by Chabot about her experiences living and working with O'Keeffe. The Christiane Gallet biography subseries includes materials related to the unpublished biography and is currently restricted.

down arrow Dorothy N. Stewart friendship
Maria Chabot and Dorothy N. Stewart had a lasting friendship. Materials resulting from Chabot's involvement in the execution of the Stewart estate are included in the Dorothy N. Stewart friendship series. Chabot also retained some of Stewart's effects, including a significant number of letters between Stewart and her sisters and some general correspondence.
